A good day for sledding
We have this amazing sledding hill about two miles from our house. Husband and I took the boys there over the holiday break. Steely clouds had hovered all day, causing dusk to descend upon us earlier than usual.
As my grandmother would say, fresh air is good for you, and it is especially good for two wee ones with tons of energy to burn.

Be a Fly on My Wall: Episode I
Last Tuesday. In the dining room. Dinner time. Owen putting napkins on the table, with Husband's help.
Owen: Dad, guess what!
Husband: What?
Owen: Chloe's mom is having a baby!
Husband: Really?
Owen: Yes!
Husband: She must be so excited.
Owen: Yes, she is! I'm excited, too!
Husband: I bet.
Owen: Daddy, how do you make a baby?
Husband: Ummmm....
Owen (thinking Husband did not hear him): Daddy, how do you make a baby?
Me (from kitchen): Mommies and daddies make babies, Owen.
Owen (pausing): Oh! I want to watch Chloe's mommy and daddy make a baby. Daddy, can I go to Chloe's house and watch them make a baby? Daddy, how do they make a baby?
(Tween snickers in the background.)
Husband: Well, that's something we'll talk about when you're older. Owen, would you like to put the forks on the table?
Owen: Okay!
Fortunately, Owen is easily distracted.

New Year's Resolution: Get More Sleep
I did something yesterday that I hardly ever do: spent the entire day in bed.
Got myself a wee stomach bug which kept me up the night before, so I was down for the count yesterday.
Fortunately, Husband was home and took over Wild Boy duties.
It's an uncomfortable place, being in bed all day when you feel as if you should be doing something because you are never just doing nothing.
However, I made myself lay there instead of playing martyr and pretending that I felt spiffy, which I didn't.
We don't do that enough, do we? Just give in to the stomach bug, cold, flu, back ache or whatever ails us.
Take a look at Hilary Clinton. I have often wondered how she does it: flying hither and yon, meeting with leaders about huge issues that could potentially effect not only our own country but the entire world. The entire world. Imagine having that sitting on your shoulders. Add jet lag, most likely erratic eating habits and lack of exercise, sprinkle a some family issues into the pot (because you know that Bill isn't just sitting on the sidelines, waiting for Hil to return home). Who wouldn't pass out?
As I was laying in bed yesterday, playing with the iPad I borrowed from our town library, I came upon this TED talk by Arianna Huffington. Take a listen - it's only three minutes long.
Makes sense, doesn't it?
So as we ring in 2013, my wish to you is that you get a good night's sleep. No, not a good night's sleep. Many.
